Muso at SXSW and on Tonight Show TONIGHT!

In the maelstrom that was the SXSW festival in Austin last week, there were a few bands I saw that stood out. There were the Stooges/Iggy Pop, Andrew Bird, Thomas Dolby, Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction, the Presidents of the United States of America, and Muso. Yes, Muso with Brian, your favorite Mozes blogger, playing drums. Muso is a tight power trio of Drums, Guitar/Piano, and Bass, and they played 3 times during the week. Their live performance is a raw, energizing, contemporary mix of the Clash, the Stooges and the Minutemen. They’ve been touring for a while, and in their spare time they appease the garage punk/pop gods by occasionally publicly sacrificing the drumsets of unsuspecting children on street corners as shown here.

Apparently this ritual is popular and entertaining enough that Jay Leno will be showing it on the Tonight Show TONIGHT! Check it out! If you Tivo it you might be able to capture the frame in which the soul of the flaming drumset escapes to meet the soul of Jimi Hendrix’s guitar. Brian, please don’t forget the little guys (and blogs) as you rise to rock stardom!
